US National Arena Soccer Team to face Brazil at CenturyLink Arena

Boise, ID (7/27/17)— The US National Arena Soccer Team and CenturyLink Arena have teamed up to bring some of indoor soccer’s best players to Boise for an international friendly, as Team USA prepares to face Team Brazil on August 11th at CenturyLink Arena, presented by Delta Dental of Idaho.

The first soccer game ever held at CenturyLink Arena will be a PanAmerican MiniFootball Federation Exhibition, showcasing some of America’s top indoor talent. The contest is one of three for the American and Brazilian national teams as they enjoy a three-game tour through the Northwest in preparation for the World Minifootball Federation World Cup this October in Tunisia.

The US team won the inaugural WMF World Cup held in the United States in 2015. Rosters for August 11th are expected to be announced later this week.

Several players from each team currently play in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL), a 20-team professional indoor soccer league in the US, Mexico, and soon expanding into Canada. The US team is expected to feature Idaho’s own Brian Farber, a veteran of both arena soccer and the MLS.

“This was an exciting opportunity to bring some top-tier athletes to Boise and give Idaho sports fans a taste of something new,” said Eric Trapp, General Manager of CenturyLink Arena. “We expect it to be a great game, and it may help us determine if bringing an indoor soccer team to Idaho is a good prospect for the future.”

Arena soccer is high-scoring and incorporates many elements familiar to hockey. The playing surface is surrounded by the boards and glass used during Steelheads games, players change on the fly, and some penalties will result in man-advantage situations.

“We are proud to bring some of the best players in North America to Boise to showcase the game of Arena Soccer as we prepare for the World Cup,” said Bernie Lilavois, the General Manager of the USNAST. “We hope that fans will come out and check out what arena soccer is all about, as we prepare to defend our World Cup title.”

The match will begin at 7pm, with doors opening at 6pm. Tickets are now on sale, starting at $15. For tickets and information, contact the CenturyLink Arena Box Office at 331-TIXS or visit centurylinkarenaboise.com.
