BOISE, GET READY TO FEEL THE BURN!

The passion for football burns deep in Boise and Treasure Valley fans, and now there is a team that reflects that heat and intensity. The Boise Burn will make its af2 debut in the spring of 2007 at Qwest Arena. The results of the Name the Team Contest are in, and J.D. Wimmer of Nampa picked the winning name and will receive a prize package from the Burn and team sponsors.

“Arena football is an emotional game, where the players and fans share in the gameday experience,” said Burn Head Coach Lee Leslie. “With this name, we’re conveying the energy, strength and power of a raging fire – one of the mightiest forces in nature.”

Leslie said while on the field, his team will personify the attributes of fire, but off the field, the Burn will partner with local, state and federal agencies to promote fire awareness and safety. The team will launch community programs to educate children about the dangers of fire, while honoring city and wildland firefighters.

Jon Skinner, Fire Education Specialist with Idaho’s Bureau of Land Management said, “The fire fighting community is always looking for new partners and avenues to spread our fire safety message so we feel this is a great opportunity for us. We certainly appreciate the Boise Burn’s efforts to include us from the beginning in developing fire education programs to reach both kids and adults.” He added, “It is rare to have a business reach out to us like this as it is usually our fire prevention folks out there knocking on doors trying to get something like this going.”

“We’re excited about the Boise Burn coming to town and the opportunity the team will give us to get our fire prevention message out,” said Kelly Cardoza, Fire Prevention Specialist with the Boise National Forest.
