Stampede sign 3-year lease with CenturyLink Arena

BOISE, Idaho, March 14, 2012 – The Idaho Stampede franchise has signed a lease agreement with Block 22, LLC, the proprietor and owner of CenturyLink Arena, allowing the club to play in the downtown Boise arena through the 2014-15 season.

The Stampede have played in the arena, formerly called Qwest Arena, since the 2005-06 season, also spending part of the 2000-01 season there.

“We love playing at CenturyLink Arena, and know that the city is glad we will be here through 2015,” said Idaho Stampede Managing Investor Bill Ilett. “We will continue to be a premier entertainment option, as well as positive force within the community, and hope to bring another championship to Idaho.”

“We are delighted to have the Idaho Stampede playing in CenturyLink Arena,” said Eric Trapp, President/GM of CenturyLink Arena and the Idaho Steelheads. “We’re pleased that we have been able to work out an agreement with the Stampede to continue bringing professional basketball to the Treasure Valley and downtown Boise.”

In an economic impact study from Boise State University’s Center for Business Research and Economic Development released in late 2011, it was shown that the Arena and its affiliated sports franchises, including the Stampede, are a “significant contributor” to the local economy, bringing in about $7.7 million each year.

“Our role as a professional basketball team is to enhance quality of life, become a key to the heart of the community and have a positive economic impact,” Ilett said. “Thanks to the efforts of Block 22 and CenturyLink Arena, we will continue to do so through 2015.”
